A unique feature of ISO’s Business Auto Policy is its use of numerical “symbols” to customize coverage. The symbols requested in the application and shown in the policy declarations determine which coverages apply to which types of vehicles. Many different configurations are possible within a relatively simple policy simply by selecting the correct combination of symbols. However, selecting the proper symbols is not as easy as it looks, and the wrong choice of symbols can leave a significant coverage gap. Further complications involve the challenge of distinguishing between “autos” and “mobile equipment.”

This course is designed to improve participants’ understanding of the “symbols” and their appropriate use. In addition to reviewing the symbols, it will discuss some of the finer, less-obvious issues that make the difference between appropriate coverage and a coverage gap.

Participants in this class will be able to:

  • Explain how the ISO Business Auto Policy uses numerical “symbols” to tailor coverage
  • Configure a business auto policy appropriately
  • Distinguish between “autos” and “mobile equipment” and explain how best to cover each
  • Negotiate needed amendments to terms to ensure proper coverage is place
