Personal Injury Protection coverage (PIP), often referred to as “No Fault” coverage, provides first party medical payment coverage to the named insured, his family and others identified by statute or contract when they are injured in a motor vehicle accident. PIP coverage is included in the insured’s Personal Automobile Policy. The coverage provides a valuable benefit to insureds. PIP is a costly line of coverage for insurers to provide. PIP law varies a great deal from state to state; in some states, the coverage is regulated by a very complex statutory scheme.
