Unresolved conflict in the workplace can be stressful and counterproductive. When it is handled effectively, conflict can result in enhanced working relationships, more productive teams and creative and innovative problem solving. Our automatic responses to conflict are deeply imbedded in who we are and are formed as a result of individual factors (personality, temperament) and environmental factors, (upbringing, social circle, culture). Your ability to recognize and effectively use each of the conflict response styles can greatly deepen your understanding of people and allow you to have a tremendous impact in your organization. In this program, we will explore the five common responses to conflict and help you identify your own unique response. Then, we will share simple strategies for managing conflict to decrease your stress and enable you to effectively use conflict as an organizational asset.

In session one, participants will:

  • Gain an understanding of the common conflict styles people use
  • Learn how to identify their own preferred conflict style, as well as recognize other's styles in a conflict situation
  • Discover the healthy (and not so healthy) ways people handle conflict
  • Identify strategies for the appropriate use of each of each conflict style

In session two, participants will:

  • Learn a simple process that helps them effectively navigate conflict situations
  • Strategies to insure that people feel heard and that all parties are respected throughout the process
  • Identify common emotions encountered during conflict and learn tips to manage emotions effectively to prevent situations from escalating
  • Understand how healthy conflict is vital to organizational success and how they can bring extraordinary value by becoming experts in managing conflict
