Contracts create a liability exposure for the named insured. Whenever they sign a contract, it's possible that it could create an insurance issue. Are the limits high enough? Did the company use the correct addtional insured endoresment? Is this additional insured covered by an automatic status endorsement? All of these questions and more should come to mind whenever the named insured makes a request to add an entity as an additional insured.

This session will deal with the contract issues that might come up and how they might impact the policy. It will also show when it's possible that issues can arise complying with the terms of the contract.

Following this session, you should be able to:

  • Describe the difference between a hold harmless agreement and an indemnification agreement.
  • Describe how certain additional insured endorsements handle the requirements of an underlying contract.
  • Determine what the boundaries of an additional insured's coverage are based on the additional insured endorsement.
